BOYS CROSS COUNTRY: Custer, Patriots down Wolves

Charles Custer won a 2.5-mile race in 14 minutes, 23.3 seconds, and Liberty’s boys cross country team swept the top three spots in a 25-32 win over Basic at Avellino Park on Wednesday.
Jonathan George crossed the line second in 14:37.8 for the Patriots, followed by teammate Alex Grant (14:51).
The Wolves’ Samuel Stewart was fourth in 15:13.7, and teammate Kendrick Peterson was fifth (15:30.8).
Cougars run past Falcons
At Foothill, Colin Schaefer won a 2.5-mile race in 14:02.4, and Coronado took five of the top six spots to post a 17-41 win over the Falcons.
Coronado’s Sterling Saltz was second in 14:08.6, followed by teammate Xavier Cummings in 14:10.3
Foothill’s Kolten Anderson placed fourth in 14:34.5.
Warriors win three-team meet
At Cheyenne, Carlos Cerda won a 2.65-mile race in 14:58 as Western took four of the top five spots to win a three-team meet.
The Warriors had 17 points. Cheyenne was second with 58, followed by Laughlin with 64.
Western’s Kevin Fuentes was second and teammate Luis Lopez third, both in 15:57.
Trailblazers sweep top five spots
At Desert Breeze Park, Marlon Medina won a 2.5-mile race in 14:14, and Durango runners took the top five spots in a tri-meet win.
Durango had 15 points. Sierra Vista finished with 50 points, and Word of Life did not field a full team.
Durango’s Felmon Mesgun was second in 14:20, with teammate Omar Campos third in 14:29.
Sundevils edge Dragons
At Eldorado, Eddie Esquivel won the 3.1-mile race in 18:00.2, and the Sundevils placed three runners in the top four to slip past Del Sol, 27-29.
Kevin Rivera (18:37.1) was third for Eldorado, and teammate Josh Ririe (19:41.2) took fourth.
Del Sol's Omar Rubio finished second in 18:32.9, and Logan Messick was fifth (19:47.9) for the Dragons.
