Marschik leads Arbor View boys to Laughlin Invitational crown

Greg Marschik didn’t have to wait long for his teammates Saturday.
The Arbor View had just enough time to cross the finish line at Mountain View Park in Laughlin and take a few deep breaths before three more Aggies completed their runs.
Marschik won the Laughlin Invitational, finishing the 3.1-mile race in 16 minutes, 46 seconds, and Arbor View placed four runners in the top 10 to take home the team title in the boys large school division.
Moapa Valley, helped by a one-two finish from Josh Thompson and Chase Witter, won the boys small school race. Australian Select’s runners took the girls large school race, and host Laughlin won the girls small school event.
Marschik outran Boulder City’s Matt Lundgren, who finished second in 16:52. Lundgren ran in the large school race, even though Boulder City competed as a team in the small school race. Shadow Ridge’s Sam Mahar was third in 16:58.
The Mustangs actually had three of the top six runners with Jon Clark (17:01) taking fourth and Nick Springston (17:14) sixth, but Blaise Hill’s (17:08) fifth-place finish and support from Andrew Nelson (ninth in 17:37), Conor Gallagher (10th in 17:41) and Kyler Wilson (14th in 18:00) allowed the Aggies to nip Shadow Ridge for the title.
Arbor View had 34 points, two better than the Mustangs. Palo Verde was third with 54.
In the small school boys race, Thompson coasted to the win in 17:00 with Witter taking second in 17:52 as the Pirates ran away with the title.

Moapa Valley had a team score of 25. Laughlin was second with 65, followed by Virgin Valley (73) and Boulder City (74).
The Australian Select team had four runners in the top 10, including race winner Krystal Cagney (20:38), to easily win the girls large school race with 43 points.
Shadow Ridge — helped by Mallory Reese’s second-place finish in 20:46 — finished second with 66 points. Palo Verde was third with 78.
Valley’s Anne Marie Underwood finished third in 20:50, followed by Shadow Ridge’s Elaina Vlassopoulous (20:55).
Laughlin’s girls had five of the top 10 finishers to win the girls small school race.
Boulder City’s Dana Prach won the race in 22:56. Laughlin’s Kemberly Mejia was second in 23:40, helping the Cougars to a team total of 30 points. Boulder City finished second with 58.
