BASEBALL: Bulldogs rally late to get by Panthers

Kyle Horton’s infield single in the bottom of the sixth inning plated Jared Drizin with the go-ahead run to lift Centennial’s baseball team to a 7-6 win over visiting Palo Verde on Saturday.

The Bulldogs trailed 6-4 entering the bottom of the sixth before loading the bases on a single by Jacob Horton, a hit by pitch on Parker Rosenkrantz and a bunt single by Drizin.

A passed ball allowed one run to score, and a fielder’s choice tied the game before Kyle Horton’s hit scored Drizin.

Rosenkrantz was 2-for-2 with a run, and Kyle Horton and Jacob Horton each went 2-for-3 for Centennial.

Bradley Lewis and Mitchell Rathbun each went 2-for-3 with a run for the Panthers.

Coronado 3, Faith Lutheran 2 — At Faith Lutheran, Sterling Saltz scored on a throwing error in the top of the seventh as the Cougars edged the Crusaders in a pitcher’s duel.

Saltz led off the inning with a walk before Nicco Festa hit a one-out single to center. The errant throw to third base allowed Saltz to come around and score.

With runners on first and second and two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Daniel Witoslawski came in and forced a pop out to earn the save. Michael Waming struck out six in 6 2/3 innings to get the win for Coronado, which got two hits and a run from Jackson Cofer.

Faith Lutheran’s Zach Trageton went 3-for-4 with two runs, and teammate Greg Sylvester added a double. Cameron Sepede hit a triple for the Crusaders, who got five innings and 10 strikeouts from Jordan Dreibelbis.

Bishop Gorman 13, Damonte Ranch 3 — At Gorman, Austin Cram was 2-for-2 with a home run and two RBIs, and Drew Newson went 1-for-2 with a three-run home run to help the Gaels top the Mustangs in six innings in the championship game of the Bishop Gorman Desert Classic.

Brandon Wulff was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and Bronson Bowe went 3-for-3 for Gorman, which scored three runs in the second and three more in the third to take a 7-1 lead.

Cadyn Grenier was 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Gaels.

Desert Oasis 5, Sierra Vista 3 — At Sierra Vista, Chris Van Kuren went 2-for-4, and the Diamondbacks scored three times in the first inning on their way to a win over the Mountain Lions.

Winning pitcher Lukas Diehm had an RBI double for Desert Oasis.

Matthew Almaguer was 3-for-4, and Caeden Marin went 2-for-4 for Sierra Vista.

Green Valley 14, Valley 0 — At Green Valley, Keaton Smith went 3-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs to help the Gators rout the Vikings in five innings.

Ryan Jackson and Tommy Brown combined on a two-hitter for Green Valley.

Durango 12, Mojave 7 — At Durango, Richard Mascarenas went 3-for-3 with two RBIs to lead the Trailblazers over the Rattlers.

Dustin Levin was 2-for-3 with a double, three runs and an RBI for Durango.
