LIONS TOURNEY: Van Stone’s single allows Foothill to slip past Whittier

Brandon Van Stone’s two-out single to left-center field plated pinch-runner Ryan Moyes with the deciding run in the bottom of the seventh inning Wednesday as Foothill’s baseball team edged Whittier (Calif.), 5-4 in the Lions Tournament in San Diego.
Gabriel Soto was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs for Foothill, which erased an early 3-0 deficit. Drew Mortensen went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Falcons.
Foothill’s Dayton Kurian tossed a seven-hitter, allowing only one run after the first inning.
Edison (Calif.) 5, Green Valley 4 — Eric Snyder doubled home Cody Schneekluth with the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning as Edison outlasted the Gators.
Evan Van Hoosier belted a two-run homer that gave the Gators a 4-1 lead in the top of the sixth inning, but Edison scored twice in the sixth, and Jon Torres’ RBI single in the seventh forced extra innings.
Gabe Douglas had an RBI double in the third inning, and Alec Hutt scored on a passed ball in the fourth for Green Valley.
Green Valley’s Jake Didonato allowed eight hits, three walks and two earned runs in eight innings.
Desert Oasis 11, Morse (Calif.) 3 — Zane Killebrew went 3-for-3 with two doubles, a run and five RBIs, and the Diamondbacks used a five-run second inning to open a 6-1 lead and cruise past the Tigers.
Joe Paratore finished 3-for-3 with two doubles and two runs scored for Desert Oasis.
La Jolla Country Day (Calif.) 1, Arbor View 0 — La Jolla’s unearned run in the bottom of the fourth inning accounted for the game’s only score in a win over the Aggies.
Zach Quintana and Evan McMahan combined on a two-hitter for Arbor View, which managed only four hits.
La Costa Canyon (Calif.) 4, Silverado 1 — La Costa Canyon scored three runs in the second inning and limited the Skyhawks to seven hits.
Trevor Johnson was 3-for-3 with a double and a run, and Marty Sifuentes went 2-for-4 for Silverado.
