ROUNDUP: Falcons hold off late Patriot rally in win

Dylan Ellis went 3-for-4, and Foothill’s baseball team survived a late rally Thursday to edge host Liberty, 6-5.

Eduardo Yanez was 2-for-4 for the Falcons, who took a 6-2 lead into the bottom of the seventh.

Liberty’s Marcos Rivera belted a three-run home run with two outs in the seventh to bring the Patriots within a run, and Liberty put the potential tying run on first base before a groundout ended the game. Rivera finished 2-for-4.

Basic 14, Del Sol 10 — At Del Sol, Matt Dembinski tripled twice, and David Romero and Andy Chaves each added a triple to help lift the Wolves to a win over the Dragons.

Corey Gilligan went 3-for-4 and earned the win for Basic, which scored six runs in the sixth inning to pull away.

Del Sol’s Bryan Franco was 4-for-4 with two triples and five RBIs, Joey Baggs tripled and drove in two runs, and Daniel Doph doubled twice for the Dragons.

Green Valley 21, Tech 0 — At Green Valley, Bobby Shiroky, Cameron Harper and James Durbin combined on a no-hitter, striking out 10 and walking three, as the Gators routed the Roadrunners in five innings.

Harper went 3-for-4 with a triple and five RBIs for Green Valley. Bryan Simpkins was 3-for-3 with two RBIs.

Thirteen Gators combined on the team’s 20 hits.

Rancho 14, Chaparral 2 — At Rancho, Zak Qualls earned the win by striking out 10 batters in four innings, and Josh Gomez hit a three-run homer to help the Rams cruise past the Cowboys in five innings.

Scott Koenen went 2-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs, and Kevin Kline and Michael Cruz each had two hits for Rancho.

Valley 19, Canyon Springs 9 — At Canyon Springs, Mitchell Diesko was 3-for-5 with two triples and six RBIs and earned the win in relief to help the Vikings defeat the Pioneers in six innings.

Eric Herring doubled twice and drove in three runs, Hector Robles added a triple, and Hansel Escamilla and Rayce Rayos doubled for Valley.

Shaun Dungey and Hector Burgara doubled, and Pedro Montoya and Larry Dungey each singled twice for Canyon Springs.

Las Vegas 12, Desert Pines 0 — At Desert Pines, Dillon Dove had 11 strikeouts in four innings and combined with Sterling Tidwell to throw a three-hit shutout as the Wildcats beat the Jaguars in five innings.

Tanner Chauncey was 3-for-3 with a double, a triple, two runs and one RBI, and Quinnton Mack went 2-for-3 with two runs scored for Las Vegas.

Eldorado 21, Sunrise Mountain 5 — At Sunrise Mountain, Chris Brown was 4-for-4 with two triples, a home run, three runs and four RBIs to help the Sundevils rout the Miners.

Isaiah Hernandez went 4-for-4 with a double, a triple and three runs, and Eric Larsen was 4-for-5 with two RBIs for Eldorado.

Alan Guerrero, Lucio Arreola and Ryan Jarzombek each added three hits for the Sundevils. Jarzombek tripled twice, and Arreola had a double and a triple.

Virgin Valley 12, Faith Lutheran 9 — At Faith Lutheran, Zach Horlacher went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run to help the Bulldogs build a 10-0 fourth-inning lead and hold on to down the Crusaders.

Virgin Valley starting pitcher Jason Wittwer tossed three hitless innings, striking out eight of the 10 batters he faced.
