ROUNDUP: Quiroz’s double allows Chargers to outlast Trailblazers

Mike Quiroz hit a three-run double in the bottom of the second inning Friday, and Clark’s baseball team held on for a 4-3 home victory over Durango.

Quiroz finished 3-for-3, and his double put the Chargers up 4-2.

That was enough for pitcher Travis Pullen, who scattered seven hits with five strikeouts to get the complete-game win. He also went 2-for-4 at the plate.

The loss knocked Durango into fifth place in the Southwest at 7-6, a half game behind Spring Valley for the league's final playoff berth.

Faith Lutheran 15, Arbor View 4 — At Faith Lutheran, Bobby Burns went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs to lead the Crusaders past the Aggies in five innings.

Nick Bata (two RBIs), Blake Matthias (two runs) and Michael Kinkenon had two hits apiece for Faith Lutheran, which led 15-0 after three innings.

Nick Urban homered for Arbor View, and teammates Zack Hartman and Tyler LeBaron each had two hits.

Centennial 14, Cheyenne 5 — At Cheyenne, the Bulldogs erupted for nine runs in the top of the ninth inning to blast the Desert Shields.

Casey Moses went 2-for-5 with a double and three RBIs to lead Centennial, and teammate Bryan Bonnell had the go-ahead RBI single in the ninth.

Cheyenne scored single runs in the sixth and eighth innings to stay alive, but Bonnell pitched a scoreless ninth to earn the win for the Bulldogs.

Green Valley 8, Las Vegas 0 — At Las Vegas, Chad Whiteaker was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs to help the Gators blank the Wildcats.

Bobby Shiroky was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and Gabe Douglas scored two runs on 3-for-4 hitting for Green Valley.

Jake DiDonato allowed three runs in five innings with six strikeouts to get the win.

Bonanza 8, Desert Oasis 4 — At Bonanza, Kris Bryant was 2-for-3 with a double, an inside-the-park home run and three RBIs to lead the Bengals past the Diamondbacks.

Heriberto Orozco went 2-for-3 with a double, a solo shot and two runs for Bonanza.

Dillon Krasn was 2-for-4 with a double for Desert Oasis, and Matt Garrett singled twice for the Diamondbacks.

Pahrump Valley 10, Western 0 — At Western, Sam Morrow was 2-for-3 with a triple and a double and pitched a shutout to lead the Trojans past the Warriors.

Morrow allowed eight hits, walked two and struck out eight.

Eddie Martinez went 2-for-3 with a triple for Pahrump.

Shadow Ridge 17, Mojave 1 — At Shadow Ridge, Paul Geraldo was 3-for-4 with five RBIs to lead the Mustangs past the Rattlers in five innings.

Colt Stout homered for Shadow Ridge. Andrew Mahalik, Joey Liuzza, Trent Kinney and Stout added two hits apiece for the Mustangs.

Del Sol 16, Valley 13 — At Valley, David Day went 4-for-4, and Daniel Ortega hit a grand slam in the fifth inning to help the Dragons outslug the Vikings.

Justin Chronister was 2-for-4 with two RBIs for Del Sol.

Richard Sandoval was 3-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI for Valley, and teammate Marcus Mejia went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Hector Robles was 3-for-3 with two RBIs for the Vikings.

Cimarron-Memorial 9, Coronado 4 — At Cimarron, A.J. Hernandez was 3-for-4 with an RBI, and Kevin Dorantes doubled twice, scored twice and drove in a run to lead the Spartans past the Cougars.

Tanner McAninch went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, and Bo Tampke had two hits for Cimarron.

Cody Giordano batted 2-for-3 with two runs for Coronado.

Boulder City 8-9, Moapa Valley 5-10 — At Overton, Lane Stringham’s two-run walk-off homer with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning of the second game allowed the Pirates to salvage a split with the Eagles.

Boulder City scored three runs in the top of the ninth to take a 9-6 lead, but the Pirates rallied as Conner Mortensen stroked a two-run double with one out in the inning and scored ahead of Stringham on the game-ending homer.

Kevin Cardinal was 2-for-4 with a pair of home runs and three RBIs, and Matt Vallet went 2-for-2 with two doubles, two runs and an RBI for Moapa Valley.

Jack LaMarca was 2-for-4 with a home run and a double for Boulder City. Zack Schultz hit 2-for-2, and Ryan Bowen went 2-for-4 with a double for the Eagles.

In the opener, Steven Kaposta was 3-for-3 with three runs, and the Eagles scored five runs in the top of the first inning on their way to the win.

LaMarca batted 2-for-3 for the Eagles.

Kaden Brown went 1-for-2 with two RBIs for the Pirates.

Lake Mead 26-16, Sandy Valley 2-2 — At River Mountain Park, Drew Erickson went 7-for-7 in the doubleheader to lead the Eagles to a sweep of the Sidewinders.

Erickson had a grand slam and seven RBIs in the nightcap.

Lake Mead’s Alex Uceda and Justin Shriver each had three hits in the opener, and teammate Jacob Dunne had three hits in the second game.

The Meadows 12-16, Calvary Chapel 7-4 — At The Meadows, Brandon Thomas had a home run and four RBIs in the first game to highlight a doubleheader sweep for the Mustangs.

Henderson International 13, Trinity 7 — At Henderson International, Keenan Gladd-Brown went 4-for-4 with a home run, a triple and five RBIs to lead the Wolverines past the Thunder.

Boomer Sherrill tossed a two-hitter to help Henderson International, which set the pace with 10 runs in the first inning.

White Pine 20-29, Agassi Prep 5-10 — At Ely, Josh Muir belted a home run in each game to lead the Bobcats to a sweep of the Stars.

Cody Britton and Levi Valdez also homered in the nightcap for White Pine.

Agassi Prep’s Terrell Kemp went 3-for-3 with a triple and a double in the opener, and teammate Ijon McCoy homered.

D.J. Mitchell was 2-for-3 with a home run and a double for the Stars in the second game.

Beatty 16-18, Spring Mountain 2-3 — At Beatty, Brandon Villanueva went 5-for-6 with a double, a triple, a home run and five RBIs to lead the Hornets to the sweep.

Ricardo Pelaya was 5-for-6 with a double and three RBIs for Beatty.

Tonopah 12-17, Indian Springs 2-6 — At Indian Springs, Emitt Davis went a combined 7-for-8 with four doubles to lead the Muckers to a sweep of the Thunderbirds.

Davis drove in five runs in the opener, and teammate Cody Serfoss pitched a two-hitter with nine strikeouts.

Tonopah scored 11 runs in the eighth inning of the nightcap to clinch the sweep. Reese Jones was 4-for-6 for the Muckers, and teammate Taylor McLauchlin added four RBIs.

Matt Johnson homered for Indian Springs.

Needles 21-13, Mountain View 1-1 — At Needles, Calif., Ryan Andrews threw a no-hitter with two strikeouts in the nightcap to help the Mustangs complete a sweep of two five-inning games.

Needles’ Mason Cisneros went 5-for-5 in the opener, and teammates Matt McAndrews and Bobby Stahel each doubled twice.
