SMALL-SCHOOL BASEBALL: Panthers Burris fans 15 in five-inning no-hitter

Brandon Burris tossed a five-inning no-hitter and struck out 15 on Thursday to help Pahranagat Valley’s baseball team to an 18-0 win over Tonopah in the opening round of the Division IV Southern Region playoffs at Alamo.

Burris allowed one walk, and one Tonopah hitter reached on error, but all 15 outs came by strikeout.

Shawn Wadsworth belted a grand slam, and Duston Stewart was 3-for-3 with three RBIs for the Panthers (21-3), who will meet Indian Springs (11-5) in the winners’ bracket final at 1 p.m. Friday. Indian Springs was a 14-4 winner over Round Mountain in the other opening-round game.

Round Mountain (14-7-1) and Tonopah (9-12) will play in an elimination game at 4 p.m. Friday.

DIVISION III

Kobe Walker threw a five-inning one-hitter and struck out three to help Lincoln County to a 12-0 win over Lake Mead in the opening round of the Division III Southern League playoffs at Laughlin.

Alex Vincent was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Hunter Wilkin went 2-for-3 with a double for the Lynx (17-7), who will meet The Meadows (14-6-1) in the winners’ bracket final at 1 p.m. Friday. The Meadows downed Needles, 10-5 in the other opening-round game.

Zack Brocker was 1-for-2 for Lake Mead (14-7), which will face Needles (17-7) in an elimination game at 10 a.m. Friday.
