2A BOYS: Lynx trio highlights all-league awards

The importance of Dantley Walker, Eric Rippetoe and Bruce Condie to Lincoln County’s boys basketball team was evident in Saturday’s Class 2A state title game.

All three played the entire 32 minutes in the Lynx’s 71-64 loss to Incline, and the trio recently received votes from 2A Southern League coaches for all-league honors.

Junior guard Walker was named league Player of the Year, senior post Rippetoe highlighted the first team and senior wing Condie received second-team honors. Lynx coach Mike Wood shared Coach of the Year with The Meadows’ Gary Hannig.

“Those three are like clockwork,” Wood said of Walker, Rippetoe and Condie. “They play all 32 basically every game unless there was foul trouble.”

Wood said his team is still digesting the disappointing finish to its season, but the players still came away with a good season.

Lincoln County finished 25-5, including a 13-1 record in 2A Southern League play.

The biggest reason was Walker, a 5-foot-11-inch sharpshooter who averaged 32.4 points per game. Wood said Walker raised his game to new heights as a junior because of his leadership and passing abilities.

“How he sees the floor and how he’s able to get the ball to the open guy was probably the biggest change,” Wood said.

Wood said Walker “has a couple offers from small schools,” and Brigham Young associate head coach Dave Rice watched him hit nine 3-pointers on his way to 42 points in a 78-73 win over Enterprise (Utah) on Dec. 30.

The 6-5 Rippetoe wasn’t far behind Walker’s scoring prowess, averaging 24 points.

“It was a tremendous combination,” Wood said. “They probably scored 80, 85 percent of our offensive output. That was our one-two punch.”

Condie, who averaged 6.5 points per game, was one of the team’s top perimeter defenders.

Other first-team honors went to Agassi Prep posts Quincy Brown and Dimitri Amos, Mountain View guard Justyn Anderson, Needles guard Michael Hills and The Meadows guard Garrett Gosse.

Second-team recognition went to Mountain View guard Cortland LeBoeuf, The Meadows guard Austin Brown, West Wendover guard Drew Arrien, Needles guard Anthony Ramos, White Pine forward Michael Johnson and Calvary Chapel swingman Tyler Moore.
