ROUNDUP: Muhammad’s clutch scoring helps rally Gorman boys past Central Catholic

Shabazz Muhammad scored 21 points, including a key 3-pointer and dunk down the stretch Tuesday, to help Bishop Gorman’s boys basketball team to a 68-61 win over Central Catholic (Ore.) in the winners’ bracket quarterfinals of the Les Schwab Invitational at Hillsboro, Ore.

Rosco Allen added 15 points for Gorman, which fell behind 19-14 in the first quarter, but battled back to take a 46-44 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Gaels stretched their lead to seven points before Central Catholic tied the game at 54.

Muhammad’s key shots, and free throws down the stretch by Rashad Muhammad capped the win.

Rashad Muhammad scored 11, and Ronnie Stanley had seven points and nine rebounds for Gorman.

Canyon Springs 89, Kamehameha (Hawaii) 77 — At Carlsbad, Calif., Jared Brandon piled up 26 points and seven rebounds as the Pioneers scored 53 second-half points and rallied past the Warriors in the Holiday Classic.

Michael Thompson had 18 points and seven rebounds for Canyon Springs, which advanced to the semifinals of the American Division.

Marquon Webster scored 16 points, and Chris Willis added 12 points and eight rebounds for the Pioneers.

Sierra Vista 70, Battle Ground (Wash.) 59 — At Gillette, Wyo., Viko Noma’aea poured in 19 second-half points, including 11 in the fourth quarter as the Mountain Lions topped Battle Ground in the Energy Classic.

Noma’aea finished with 27 points and seven assists for the Mountain Lions. Maiscei Grier added 15 points, and Gary Jacobs scored 13 for Sierra Vista.

The Mountain Lions trailed 45-41 entering the fourth quarter, but Noma’aea and Jacobs combined for 21 points in the quarter, and Xavier Rogers added four assists and three steals in the final eight minutes.

Cimarron-Memorial 62, Paradise Valley (Ariz.) 29 — At Prescott Valley, Ariz., Rico Garrett had 12 points and Deijon Spillers added 11 points as the Spartans routed the Trojans in the Alvarez Tire Holiday Classic.

Erik Brewer and Mussie Gebremeskel each supplied 10 points for Cimarron, which outscored Paradise Valley 35-10 in the first half.

Paul Watson led the Trojans with 10 points.

Cimarron-Memorial 56, Rincon (Ariz.) 43 — At Prescott Valley, Ariz., Spillers racked up 20 points, 14 rebounds and four blocked shots to lead the Spartans past the Rangers and into the championship game of the Alvarez Tire Holiday Classic.

Garrett added 16 points and eight assists for Cimarron, and Christian Brown contributed 12 points.

Dylan Hidalgo paced Rincon with 20 points, and teammate Billy Morrison supplied 13 points.

Buhach Colony (Calif.) 69, Green Valley 59 — At El Cajon, Calif., Buhach Colony drained a buzzer-beating 3-pointer just before halftime to take a five-point lead, and held off the Gators in the Braves Basketball Tournament.

Earl Thompson had 17 points and 12 rebounds, and Austin Tebbs added 15 points for the Gators.

Moapa Valley 58, Uintah (Utah) 55 — At Cedar City, Utah, Casen Lewis led a balanced attack with 13 points, and the Pirates held off the Utes in the Steve Hodson Classic.

Danny Kincaid and Hayden Cooper each added nine points for Moapa Valley.
