ROUNDUP: Washington’s 22 points not enough as Liberty girls fall in Nike TOC

Je Zhe Newton had 21 points as Chandler (Ariz.) defeated Liberty 72-63 on Thursday in the Nike Tournament of Champions in Phoenix.

Chandler used a 20-11 second-quarter run to take control.

Jade Washington led Liberty with 22 points, and Jazmin O’Bannon added 10 points for the Patriots.

Canyon (Calif.) 58, Canyon Springs 39 — At Phoenix, the Pioneers never recovered from a slow start and lost to Canyon in the Nike Tournament of Champions.

Kenosha Wright had 14 points, and Pearl Paulo scored 11 for Canyon Springs, which trailed 15-3 after one quarter and 34-10 at the half.

Westview (Ariz.) 54, Palo Verde 45 — At Phoenix, Lily Tapusoa scored 13 points, but the Panthers fell to Westview in the Nike Tournament of Champions.

Dominique Bryant added 11 points, and Jasmin Kiley scored 10 for Palo Verde.

Legacy 53, Huntington Park (Calif.) 46 —  At Phoenix, the Longhorns rallied to advance to the Black Division Championship of the Nike Tournament of Champions.

Legacy plays Chaminade (Calif.) at 5 p.m. Thursday for the title.

Villa Park (Calif.) 79, Sierra Vista 43 — At Anaheim, Calif., Brittany Bauman drained half of Villa Park’s 12 3-pointers, and the Spartans used a 29-9 third-quarter spurt to pull away from the Mountain Lions in the semifinals of the Savanna Tournament.

Connie Ballestero scored 25 points, and Bauman had 21 points for Villa Park, which led only 24-20 at the half.

Jeanette Jackson paced Sierra Vista with 19 points.
