2A STATE: Tippens, Mustangs earn another title by routing Bobcats

Marcus Tippens ran for three touchdowns and caught a pair of scoring passes from Seth Montes on Saturday to lead Pershing County’s football team to its second straight Class 2A state title with a 47-14 win over White Pine in Fernley.
Tippens, a senior, scored three touchdowns and had an interception in the first 11 minutes of the game as the Mustangs (11-1) bolted to an 18-0 lead.
After Pershing County recovered an onside kick to start the game, Tippens had a 4-yard TD run. He also caught TD passes of 47 and 35 yards from Montes, the latter coming on a fourth-and-19 play.
Jacob Flores’ 21-yard run made it 24-0 in the second quarter before the Bobcats (11-1) finally got on the board on Joshua Ashby’s 15-yard TD pass to Jake Johnson.
Tippens added a 4-yard TD run in the third quarter and a 3-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter.
Backup quarterback Miguel Rodriguez added a 19-yard TD run for Pershing County.
Devante Valencia scored on a 1-yard run in the final minute for White Pine.
