NOTES: Gators hire football coach

Green Valley hired Brian Castro as its new football coach, the school announced Wednesday.

Castro replaced Matt Gerber, who was 24-30 in five years. Castro was a Gators assistant the past eight years.

TAYLOR CHOSEN — Faith Lutheran senior Brooke Taylor, 18, was selected Sunday to the U.S. national synchronized swimming team, which will compete at the FINA World Aquatics Championships from July 16 to 31 in Shanghai, China.

“I almost fainted,” Taylor’s father, Arthur, said of her selection. “She’s been swimming since about 9 years old. I definitely had tears in my eyes.”
