NIAA selects nine for Hall of Fame

Pat Hayden, Charles Hurley, Ray Mathis, Todd Liebenstein, Bill Casey, Darwin Rost, Jerry Huston, Florindo Mariani and William McGee were named to the 25th class of the Hall of Fame for the NIAA.

We all remember Durango and Sierra Vista struggling in recent seasons, right? Now, both teams are undefeated entering Friday’s first-place showdown at Durango. The Mandela Effect is the only explanation. Just a glitch in the matrix.

FIELDER’S CHOICES: Summer’s gone, but league play’s here

Sure enough, league play in the Class 4A Sunset Region and Class 3A starts this week, the true indicator that summer is done. Even Bishop Gorman is taking a break from irking out-of-state fanbases to play a Southwest League contest against Bonanza. (I didn’t include that game in my picks, but, spoiler alert, Gorman is going to win.)

Centennial rising senior Jamaal Evans became the second area QB to make an oral commitment for 2017 when he recently pledged to UNR.

NOTES: Silverado’s Pritchard commits to Hawaii

Jeremiah Pritchard made an oral commitment to Hawaii following an official visit to the school last weekend. His commitment is nonbinding, and the first day he can sign a letter of intent is Feb. 3. Hawaii’s coaches cannot comment until that time.
