Pirates top Virgin Valley, win league title

Moapa Valley (6-3, 2-0 3A Southern) routed rival Virgin Valley (3-6, 1-1) 52-0 on Thursday in Overton to win the league title and clinch a first-round playoff bye.

Moapa Valley quarterback Kelan Weiss threw all five of his TD passes in the first half. He finished 9-for-10 for 320 yards.

Matt Newton caught six passes for 265 yards, including TD receptions of 51, 60, 62 and 38 yards.

Weiss added a 28-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter.

Richard Vidal rushed for 53 yards to lead Virgin Valley.
