Shadow Ridge comeback leads to OT victory

Shadow Ridge (2-1) mounted a furious comeback in the third quarter and emerged with a 50-49 overtime victory over visiting Legacy (0-2) on Friday.

Ali Abdullah caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from senior QB Bakari Smith in OT, and Aarron Council’s conversion kick delivered the victory for Shadow Ridge.

Abdullah also scored with 1:11 left in the fourth quarter on an 18-yard pass from Smith, and Alex Wise made a shoestring catch for the 2-point conversion to make it 43-43.

Smith led the Mustangs’ charge, finishing with 393 yards passing and five touchdowns, two to senior Marquise Evans.

Legacy went ahead 49-43 in overtime on QB Kashawn Richardson’s 1-yard run, but the conversion kick failed.

Trailing 35-14 at halftime, Shadow Ridge tied the game by scoring three touchdowns in a three-minute span in the third quarter. Chris Goodie’s 22-yard run tied it on a possession that began with a fumbled kickoff.

Legacy regained the lead with 6:48 left on a 35-yard run by senior Charles Julian, who rushed for 255 yards on 34 carries. A 2-point conversion made it 43-35 before Shadow Ridge rallied again on Abdullah’s TD catch.
