SMALL SCHOOLS: Lee boots The Meadows to overtime victory
Dylan Lee kicked an 18-yard field goal in the second overtime period to give The Meadows (9-1) a 36-33 win over visiting Needles (5-6) in a Class 2A Southern League playoff opener Friday.
The Meadows led 20-0 in the first quarter before Needles rallied to tie the game at 27 at the end of regulation.
Garrett Gosse passed for 245 yards and three TDs. He completed 17 of 38 passes.
Gosse had a 38-yard TD pass to Austin Brown and a 26-yard scoring strike to Lee in the first quarter to help The Meadows take a 20-0 lead.
David Liu added a 3-yard TD run in the quarter. He also scored on a 4-yard run in the first overtime.
Brown caught six passes for 105 yards, and Lee added 105 yards on 7 catches.
Junior Andrew Mathews led Needles with four TD passes, including three to Bobby Stahel.
Pahranagat Valley 78, Round Mountain 0 — At Alamo, the Panthers scored 62 points in the first half on the way to a rout of the Knights in a Class 1A Southern League first-round playoff game Friday.
Jensen Jones carried five times for 60 yards, including touchdown runs of 35, 9 and 25 yards.
The defending 1A state champion Panthers (8-0) held Round Mountain (3-7) to 29 yards of offense.
The Knights committed four turnovers, including three interceptions.
Kade Wadsworth ran for 85 yards and one TD for the Panthers, who totaled 252 yards rushing.
Four of Pahranagat Valley’s seven pass attempts were for scores.
Cody Hosier tossed a 7-yard TD pass to Kale Leavitt and a 6-yard scoring strike to Tyler Higbee. Austin Poulsen threw a 55-yard scoring strike to Higbee and a 29-yard TD to Derek Hansen.
Pahranagat Valley will play Nov. 14 in a 1A state semifinal against a team to be determined.
