ROUNDUP: Arbor View boys rally for Mesquite Cup title

Brett Shapiro scored the deciding goal midway through the second half Saturday to lift Arbor View’s boys soccer team to a 2-1 win over Faith Lutheran in the championship match of the Mesquite Cup tournament in Mesquite.
The Crusaders took a 1-0 lead into the half on Zach Habart’s tally, but Nico Johnson forced a tie for the Aggies after the break.
Shapiro followed, heading in a cross from Michael Snook to give Arbor View the lead.
Coronado was a 12-0 winner over Virgin Valley in the third-place match.
 
The Meadows 1, Moapa Valley 0 — Toby Warburton's goal was the only of the match, lifting the Mustangs past the Pirates.

GIRLS
Pahrump Valley 10, Moapa Valley 0 — At Mesquite, Melissa Ewing scored four goals, and Brandi Monje added three goals and an assist as the Trojans whipped the Pirates in the Mesquite Cup.
Courtney Lindsay added two goals and two assists, and Leanne Morrow contributed a goal and two assists for Pahrump, which finished 3-0 in the tournament.
Madzia DeSalvo and Dana Ayala combined on the shutout.
Virgin Valley 0, Pahrump Valley JV 0 — At Mesquite, Virgin Valley outscored Pahrump’s junior varsity 3-2 on penalty kicks.
Janelle Weythman scored the go-ahead goal in the sixth round of penalty tries, and the Bulldogs’ Cassidy Crandall stopped Pahrump’s sixth attempt to preserve the shootout win.
Sarai DeLeon and Gabby Paongo also converted penalty kicks for Virgin Valley.
Reed 2, Faith Lutheran 0 — At Reno, the Raiders scored twice in the span of six minutes and 30 seconds midway through the first half en route to a win over the Crusaders in the Howell Memorial Tournament.
