The sturdy senior doubled as a running back for Legacy’s football team and said he started preparing for track season after football concluded.

Edmond ran the 100 meters in 11.84 seconds on Saturday at Desert Oasis to secure the Moutain Region championship — and an automatic bid to the Class 4A state meet next week. Teammate Aniya Smith finished second in 12.11, and Centennial’s Quincy Bonds ran 12.16 for third.
Eldorado’s Matthew Manganello birdied seven holes at Reflection Bay on Tuesday en route to a 5-under-par 67 and the first-round lead at the Mountain Region Tournament.

Bryce Robison spun a four-hit shutout Thursday as Palo Verde’s baseball team clinched the No. 2 seed for the Mountain Region tournament with a 4-0 home win over Centennial.
Coronado and Centennial both won Tuesday to secure the No. 1 seeds for their respective region softball tournament.
Basic and Desert Oasis each won Tuesday to remain undefeated in Desert League baseball play heading into their matchup Wednesday at Basic.

Demitri Diamant and Carson Wells scored the go-ahead runs on Santino Panaro’s fielder’s choice in the top of the seventh inning Monday as Bishop Gorman’s baseball team edged Juan Diego (Utah), 3-1 in the All-Catholic Classic at Gorman.
Michael Sonerholm won two individual events and finished second in another Wednesday to lead Pahrump Valley’s boys track team to victory in a four-team meet at Sunrise Mountain.
Deijah Cobb won one event and finished second in another, and host Valley won three of the four relays en route to capturing a three-team girls track meet on Wednesday.
