Green Valley sophomore Steele Dias won the 106-pound state championship to help the Gators to their sixth consecutive state title Saturday at Spanish Springs High School.
Having won five consecutive state championships, Green Valley coach Jon Ferry might have expected to feel comfortable with a lead after the first day of the Class 4A state tournament. But Ferry wasn’t feeling so secure as his team prepared to leave the gym after Friday’s semifinal round at Spanish Springs.
Dayshawn Robinson scored 19 points, and teammate Jahleel Stevens knocked down the go-ahead 3-pointer from the top of the key with 30 seconds remaining to lift Rancho’s boys basketball team to a 57-56 home win over Eldorado on Wednesday.
Bella Cipili ran for 64 yards and three touchdowns and threw a touchdown pass for Green Valley on Monday, as the Gators’ 32-19 road win over Boulder City snapped the Eagles’ 49-game winning streak.
