Noah Taitz led Bishop Gorman’s boys basketball team with 23 points Friday as it defeated Birmingham (California) 85-44 in the Wild West Shootout in Reno.
Arbor View’s Keith Williams led at the front of a pack of five runners early. Eventually, he managed to hold off PahrumpValley’s Bryce Odegard and Centennial’s Alexander Miller in the final quarter mile, putting in a good finishing kick to cross the line in 16 minutes and 13 seconds.
Richard Mascarenas entered the game with the bases loaded and nobody out in the seventh for Durango on Friday, and got a flyball and a double play to lock down the save in a 3-2 road win over Pahrump Valley.

Shelbi Denman spun a one-hit shutout and stuck out eight as Shadow Ridge’s softball team blanked Bingham (Utah) 13-0 in four innings in the Tournament of Champions at Bullhead City, Arizona.

Green Valley sophomore Steele Dias won the 106-pound state championship to help the Gators to their sixth consecutive state title Saturday at Spanish Springs High School.
Having won five consecutive state championships, Green Valley coach Jon Ferry might have expected to feel comfortable with a lead after the first day of the Class 4A state tournament. But Ferry wasn’t feeling so secure as his team prepared to leave the gym after Friday’s semifinal round at Spanish Springs.
Jalen Malone tipped in Reggie Ingram’s miss with a second left in overtime Friday to give Eldorado’s boys basketball team a 68-67 home victory over Mojave.
Brevin Walter hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with nine seconds to play Thursday, and Faith Lutheran’s boys basketball team earned a 63-60 win over Thousand Oaks (California) in the Rancho Mirage Holiday Invitational in Rancho Mirage, California.
