Arbor View has won the “black and blue division” each of the past five years, but Faith Lutheran and Centennial are among those challenging its supremacy this season.
The Panthers (24-3, 9-0 Mountain League) have a two-game lead over Centennial, Rancho and Shadow Ridge with four matches remaining in the regular season.
The Friday game was suspended, and a review is underway by the Southern Nevada Officials Association and the NIAA. A double forfeiture is the likely outcome.
Centennial looks to avenge last year’s 36-7 loss to Faith Lutheran, strengthen its status as Northwest League favorite in one of the valley’s top matchups.
The Crusaders stayed undefeated and moved up two spots to third in the USA Today Super 25, while Eldorado handed the 14th-ranked Las Vegas boys their first loss.
Riley Schwartz took over for the Crusaders, and he threw for two touchdowns and rushed for one Friday to help Faith Lutheran to a 35-0 win over Cimarron-Memorial.
Even with Centennial’s 17-14 win over Arbor View and Virgin Valley’s 14-7 victory over Boulder City factored in, the average margin among the 15 games was 34.5 points.
Jordan Smith caught a 95-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter and ran for a 55-yarder in the fourth in the Bulldogs’ 17-14 road victory over the Aggies on Friday.
Unbeaten Centennial travels to Arbor View in a Northwest League opener Friday night that could go a long way toward determining its champion.
Several games around the valley were decided in the final minutes Friday, which made for an exciting night,
The Durango Fall Classic, a 64-team event with a mix of schools from the valley and others from all over the country, will be played at four schools Friday and Saturday.
