DIVISION I TRACK: Silverado’s boys, Centennial girls soar

The Skyhawks seemingly contend for a state team title every five years, and Saturday was no different as they overcame injuries and wintry conditions to claim the championship at the Division I state track and field meet at Carson High.

DIVISION I SWIMMING: Palo Verde wins boys, girls titles

The Panthers took control early, with both teams cruising to victories. It was the second consecutive state title for the girls and the fourth straight for the boys.

REGION TRACK: Long jumper Jackson helps Silverado boys leap into first

Vernon Jackson won the long jump with ease with an effort of 23-2, and Silverado’s boys track team scored 43 points to take a 15-point lead over Green Valley after the first day of the Division I Sunrise Region meet at Del Sol.

BASEBALL: Gorman rallies twice to stun Shadow Ridge

Braxton Wehrle’s two-out single to center field in the bottom of the eighth inning plated Bryce Ruggeroli with the winning run as Bishop Gorman’s baseball team rallied in both the seventh and eighth innings to edge visiting Shadow Ridge 7-6 on Tuesday.

GIRLS SWIMMING: Panthers use depth to defeat Centennial

Madelaine Lauger, Stephanie Platt and Allison Warnick each won one individual event and finished second in another Saturday to guide Palo Verde’s girls swimming team to a 201-92 victory over Centennial at Pavilion.

BOYS SWIMMING: Trio helps Legacy nip Gaels

Tristan Arruti, Garrett Jones and Tama Tuitama each won two individual events Saturday to help Legacy’s boys swimming team edge Bishop Gorman, 148-146 at Municipal.

VOLLEYBALL: Wildcats rally for five-set win over Cougars

Luis Wong had 32 assists and five kills, and Raymond Magante supplied 13 kills and two aces as the Las Vegas boys volleyball team rallied for a 21-25, 25-23, 15-25, 25-19, 15-9 victory over Coronado on Tuesday.
