Region championships: Conner Nicholas helps Diamondbacks make history

Nicholas held off hard-charging Massimiliano Swenson of Bishop Gorman to become Desert Oasis’ first region cross country champion. The Diamondbacks also won the boys region team title, another first in school history.

Roundup: Palo Verde outslugs Legacy

Timothy Stephens scored four goals Saturday as Palo Verde’s boys soccer team knocked off host Legacy, 6-4.

Claire Rawlins trailed Basic’s Raquel Chavez for much of the race, but stayed within striking distance to the end. She then raced past Chavez and held off Sierra Vista’s Sarriah Brown to win the 3.1-mile race in 19 minutes, 16 seconds.

Joshua McElroy went 3-0 in singles play Wednesday afternoon to help Rancho’s boys tennis team to a 10-9 road victory over Las Vegas High.

Roundup: Gorman captures Southwest League match

Bishop Gorman placed all six of its golfers among the top 10 finishers Monday to win a Southwest League girls golf match at Bear’s Best.

Roundup: Sierra Vista nips Durango

Noah Scott and Harrison Stanley finished 3-0 in doubles Friday to lead Sierra Vista’s boys tennis team to a 10-8 road win over Durango.
