Spring Valley 132-pounder Andres Garcia beat the Sunrise Region champion, the Sunset runner-up and last week’s Sunset Region champion to claim his first Class 4A state championship Friday at The Orleans Arena.
Jaden Hardy led all scorers with 34 points to power the Coronado boys basketball team to an 87-81 road victory over Foothill in a key Southeast League game.
Centennial’s boys basketball team scored 16 points in overtime Wednesday to earn a 74-68 road victory over Palo Verde.
Senior guard Haley Tyrell scored 21 points to guide Coronado’s girls basketball team to a 55-47 home victory over Foothill on Friday evening.
Brian Washington scored 27 points, including the game-winning layup, to lift Cimarron-Memorial’s boys basketball team to a 50-48 road win at Shadow Ridge on Thursday night.
Daniel Plummer scored 14 of his game-high 23 points in the first half, and Democracy Prep stormed to a 30-13 halftime lead en route to its 61-41 victory over Palo Verde in the Gatorade Division bracket on Thursday night.
Arbor View’s Keith Williams led at the front of a pack of five runners early. Eventually, he managed to hold off PahrumpValley’s Bryce Odegard and Centennial’s Alexander Miller in the final quarter mile, putting in a good finishing kick to cross the line in 16 minutes and 13 seconds.
Tjaden Giles was 2-1 in singles play, including the match-winning tiebreaker game for Basic’s girls tennis team, as the Wolves picked up a road win against Las Vegas, 10-9.
Mark Thuet and Justin Balconi each went 3-0 in singles play Tuesday as Bonanza’s boys tennis team edged the Arbor View on the road, 10-8.
Hailey Stevenson and McKenzi Hall each shot 2-over-par 74 as Centennial’s golf team edged Palo Verde to win the team title in a Northwest League Match at Palm Valley on Tuesday.
Andrada Stanciu and Ariana Stanciu each finished 3-0 in singles, and Sierra Vista’s girls tennis team won the tiebreaker points 35-31 to hold on for a 10-9 home win over Desert Oasis on Wednesday.
Tanner Albright and Ojas Sali each went 3-0 in singles to help Ranchos boys tennis team to a 10-8 road win over Las Vegas on Wednesday afternoon.
