Desert Oasis’ Andrue Aguilera, much to his own surprise, came off the bench to lead five double-figure scorers with 17 points in the Sunset Region’s 103-85 win over the Sunrise Region at Foothill High.
The Skyhawks seemingly contend for a state team title every five years, and Saturday was no different as they overcame injuries and wintry conditions to claim the championship at the Division I state track and field meet at Carson High.
Nick Tapuala won the discus at the Division I state track and field meet with a mark of 178 feet, 9 inches despite unfavorable conditions at Carson High and became the third Liberty thrower to take home a state title in the event since 2011.
Vernon Jackson won the long jump with ease with an effort of 23-2, and Silverado’s boys track team scored 43 points to take a 15-point lead over Green Valley after the first day of the Division I Sunrise Region meet at Del Sol.
