ROUNDUP: Rants lifts Eagles to two wins, March Warm-Up title
Ali Rants went a combined 8-for-8 on Saturday to help Boulder City’s softball team win twice and capture its fourth straight Class 3A/2A March Warm-Up Tournament title in St. George, Utah.
Rants was 4-for-4 in the Eagles’ 6-0 semifinal win over Pine View (Utah) and followed it up with another 4-for-4 effort as the Eagles downed Uintah (Utah), 9-2 in the title game.
Against Pine View, Karlee Koopman tossed a six-inning shutout, allowing just four hits and striking out five.
In the finale, Koopman spun a five-inning six-hitter with five strikeouts, and Jeanette McQuillan went 3-for-4 for Boulder City, which pounded out 16 hits.
Churchill County 5, Bishop Gorman 4 — At Gorman, Danielle Rothery blasted a three-run home run in the first inning, and the Greenwave held on to nip the Gaels in the championship game of the Bishop Gorman tournament.
The game was called in the fifth inning due to rain.
Dayton Yingling was 1-for-2 with two RBIs for the Gaels, who also got a hit and an RBI from Machenzie Tucky.
Bishop Gorman 12, Centennial (Ore.) 2 — At Gorman, Yingling was 3-for-4 with two triples, a double and three RBIs as the Gaels routed the Eagles in a six-inning semifinal.
Yingling also fired a six-hitter and struck out nine.
Miranda Robles was 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and three RBIs for Gorman, which broke open the game with an eight-run second inning.
Victor Valley Christian (Calif.) 8, Faith Lutheran 7 — At Mountain View, Aleesa Salcido scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the fifth inning to help the Royals stifle the Crusaders’ rally in the championship game of the Spring Slam.
Erica Porter and Bailey Prutsos each went 2-for-3 with a double for Victor Valley, which jumped to a 6-0 lead after three innings before holding on.
Stacie Graham was 2-for-3 with three RBIs, and Mandy Young was 1-for-2 with an RBI to lead Faith Lutheran.
Pahranagat Valley 17, Lake Mead 1 — At Mountain View, Cheyenne Harris was 3-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored to lead the Panthers in a rout of the Eagles at the Spring Slam.
Halie Lewis was 2-for-2 with a walk and three runs, and Bailee Hosier smacked a solo home run for Pahranagat Valley.
Kennedy Huntsman tossed a four-inning no-hitter.
Lincoln County JV 13, Sandy Valley 0 — At Mountain View, Chelsea Lloyd threw a four-inning one-hitter with six strikeouts, and batterymate Aspen Wilkin was 1-for-2 with a walk, a double and two runs scored to lead the Lynx junior varsity by the Sidewinders in the Spring Slam.
Kylie O’Conner was 2-for-2 with a walk and three runs for Lincoln County.
Pahranagat Valley 13, Sandy Valley 0 — At Mountain View, Lineti Lasike was 2-for-3 with a double and a home run to lead the Panthers to the shutout victory over the Sidewinders at the Spring Slam.
Halie Lewis was 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs for Pahranagat Valley.
Huntsman fired another four-inning no-hitter for the Panthers.
Mountain View 8, Carlin 1 — At Mountain View, Savannah Owley went 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs in helping the host Saints overwhelm the Railroaders at the Spring Slam.
Elle Germany also went 3-for-3 for Mountain View, and Cristin Swartz was 2-for-3 with three stolen bases.
Amber Gomez went 1-for-3 with an RBI for the Saints.
