Finals set in state singles, doubles
Bonanza's Laurent Gontier, Sean Lettero, Aashish Daulat and Andrew Whiting worked together to help the Bengals win the boys Class 4A state team tennis title in Carson City on Friday.
On Saturday afternoon, Gontier and Lettero will face Daulat and Whiting for a state doubles crown. Daulat and Whiting are the defending state doubles champions.
Both Bonanza teams won a semifinal match Saturday morning at Carson High School to set up a civil war of sorts.
Championship and third-place matches in boys singles and doubles and girls singles and doubles are scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m.
In boys singles, Palo Verde's Brandon Parker advanced to meet Reno's Jeff Mullen for the title.
In girls singles, Bishop Gorman's Sarah Toti reached the final for the second straight year. She'll meet Canyon Springs' Rebecca Breland, who finally lost her first game of the tournament Saturday.
After winning five matches by 6-0, 6-0 scores at the Sunrise Region tournament, Breland won a 6-0, 6-0 decision in the quarterfinals. She advanced Saturday morning with a 6-1, 6-0 win.
In girls doubles, Silverado's Kristen Santero and Nicole Santero returned to the championship match where they'll face Bishop Gorman's Anita Lee and Sarah Bessen.
