ROUNDUP: Wharton helps Vikings cruise to victory

Garic Wharton cruised to two wins Wednesday in leading Valley’s boys track team to a 92-46 home victory over Desert Pines.

 

Wharton took the 100-meter dash in 10.4 seconds, and the 200 in 22.8.

 

Desert Pines’ Noel Darden claimed the long jump at 20 feet, 8 inches, and the triple jump at 41-5.

Gators edge Falcons
At Green Valley, the Gators won eight events on the way to a 72-68 victory over Foothill.

 

Bonanza wins three-team meet
At Durango, Dasean Martin and Franz Ferguson each won one event and placed second in another to lead Bonanza to victory with 76 points.

 

Durango (56) was second and Sierra Vista (37) third.

 

Martin won the 100 (11.7) and placed second in the 200. Ferguson won the high jump (5-6) and placed second in the triple jump.

 

Sierra Vista’s Matt Murphy won the 110 hurdles (17.1), 300 hurdles (46.5) and 200 (24.2). He also finished second in the high jump.

 

Collins leads Pioneers to win
At Canyon Springs, Daveon Collins won the 100 (10.6) and 200 (22.2) to lead Canyon Springs (84½ points) past Moapa Valley (62½) and Las Vegas (33).

 

Moapa Valley’s Bowen Call took the 110 hurdles (19.7) and 300 hurdles (43.4).

 

 

Davis, Underwood lead Vikings past Jaguars
At Valley, Christina Davis and Anne Marie Underwood won two events apiece to lift the Vikings to a 112-33 rout of Desert Pines.

 

Davis took the 100 hurdles (17.7) and 300 hurdles (51.4), and Underwood finished first in the 800 (2:30.2) and 1,600 (5:49.3).

 

Desert Pines’ Kiana Alexander won the 100 (13.4), 200 (27.4) and 400 (1:05.1). Teammate Britney Still took the shot put (32-4½) and discus (74-10).

Gators coast to victory
At Green Valley, the Gators took 10 events on the way to an 82-54 win over Foothill.

 

Bonanza edges Durango, Sierra Vista
At Durango, Emily Adams won the 1,600 (6:18) and 3,200 (13:15) to lead Bonanza (63½) to victory over Durango (59) and Sierra Vista (49½).

 

At Canyon Springs, Destanae Howerton-Davis and Marielle McAdory won two events each to lead the Pioneers (86 points) past Moapa Valley (62) and Las Vegas (27).

 

McAdory took the long jump (14-9½) and triple jump (31-4), and Howerton-Davis won the shot put (39-4) and discus (113-1).

 

Moapa Valley’s Jordan Chappell won the 800 (2:38.3) and 1,600 (5:49.1).
