ROUNDUP: Puente, Carr help Spring Valley girls pull away from Durango, Clark
Danica Puente and Whitney Carr each won two events Wednesday to lift Spring Valley’s girls track team to victory in a three-team meet at Durango.
Puente took the 1,600-meter run in 5 minutes, 51 seconds, and the 3,200 in 13:00.
Carr won the 100 in 12.6 seconds and the 200 in 27.4.
The Grizzlies scored 82½ points to finish ahead of Durango (50½) and Clark (49).
Clark’s Audrey Meng took the long jump at 14 feet, 3 inches, and the triple jump at 31-9.
Johonnot leads Bulldogs to win
At Centennial, Karli Johonnot took three events to lead the host Bulldogs to victory in a three-team meet.
Johonnot took the 300 hurdles in 44.0, the 200 in 25.4 and the high jump at 5-0.
Centennial’s Takara Shaw won the shot put at 34-3½ and the discus at 101-0½.
Centennial won with 126 points to cruise past Shadow Ridge (52) and The Meadows (10).
Thomas leads Gators to victory
At Green Valley, Courtney Thomas won the long jump at 15-7 and the triple jump at 33-2 to lead the host Gators to victory in a three-team meet.
Green Valley racked up 106 points, defeating Foothill (43½) and Basic (32½).
Foothill’s Lena Laengle won the 200 in 27.1, the 100 hurdles at 15.7 and the high jump at 4-10.
Relay squads propel Miners
At Sunrise Mountain, the Miners swept the three contested relay events and had six individuals win events to capture a three-team meet.
Sunrise Mountain had 68 points. Del Sol was second with 42, followed by Chaparral with 37.
Del Sol's Sterling Torres won the 800 in 2:38.8 and the 1,600 in 6:02.2, and teammate Angela Johnson won the 100 hurdles in 16.2 and the 300 hurdles in 50.4.
