Girls Volleyball
Nikki Jackson had 16 kills and three blocks to help Coronado’s girls volleyball team to an 18-25, 25-21, 15-12 win over Bishop Gorman in the Nike Tournament of Champions in Phoenix on Friday.
Bernice Fiso had 15 kills and 13 digs, and Janella Fiso added 35 assists, eight aces and six digs to help Virgin Valley’s girls volleyball team outlast host Boulder City, 25-23, 25-19, 20-25, 20-25, 15-9 on Tuesday.
Rachel Klopfer had 35 kills, 14 digs and two aces Thursday as Green Valley’s girls volleyball team outlasted visiting Bonanza, 25-17, 18-25, 25-22, 26-28, 15-11.
Angel Jamerson supplied 19 assists, 11 digs, seven kills and seven aces as Clark’s girls volleyball team rallied for a 17-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-21 win over host Sunrise Mountain on Thursday.
Saipeti Fuiava had 13 kills, three aces and three digs, and Myah Maxwell had 14 kills and eight digs to lead Legacy’s girls volleyball team to a 25-8, 32-30, 21-25, 25-19 win over visiting Basic on Wednesday.
Greg Rogers still is learning the ins and outs of recruiting, so the standout defensive lineman from Centennial didn’t know that college coaches could begin contacting him and other members of the class of 2017 on Sept. 1. Luckily, Rogers found out just before his inbox was flooded.
Hannah Goddard had 10 kills and seven aces Thursday as Arbor View’s girls volleyball team swept visiting Cheyenne, 25-10, 25-14, 25-12.
Darwin Rost, the only head football coach in Palo Verde history, went 154-50 with the Panthers and won the state title in 2004. His 2008 team is the last Nevada squad to beat Bishop Gorman.
Coach Andy Johnson told his players: “The target on our backs just got bigger. You come to Findlay Prep to play against the best teams in the country. Now you”ve got the opportunity to be able to do that. Every day you”ve got to take the attitude where you”ve got something to prove.”
The Tarkanian Classic boys basketball tournament nearly doubled in size this year. And it could have been even larger.
