Apartment fire displaces family, kills dog

One dog died and four people were displaced after an apartment fire in north east Las Vegas Sunday afternoon.

Las Vegas firefighters responded to the Playa Vista Apartments, located at 3700 Bonanza Road near Pecos Road, about 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

The fire started in the kitchen of the second story apartment unit. The fire spread and destroyed much of the kitchen and living room, fire officials said.

Three adults and one child escaped the fire without injury, but one canine died from smoke inhalation, officials said.

Damage to the unit was estimated at $50,000. The American Red Cross is assisting those who were displaced.
