Crews struggle to fight Northern Nevada wildfire

WADSWORTH -- Fire officials say shifting winds and inaccessible terrain are hampering efforts to contain a 7,500-acre wildfire burning out of control in Northern Nevada.

Spokesman Mark Struble said while the blaze poses no immediate threat to buildings, it represents a potential threat to structures in the town of Wadsworth.

He said the fire has burned within four miles of Wadsworth, which is located near Fernley along Interstate 80 about 30 miles east of Reno.

Struble said the south side of the fire remains the most critical as down-slope winds are pushing the fire to the south toward Wadsworth.

The fire, which broke out Saturday afternoon, is burning grass and brush in valleys and ranges largely owned by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management. More than 200 firefighters are battling the fire.
