Dog dead following Las Vegas house fire

A dog died and five people were displaced after a fire in the west valley Sunday morning, the Las Vegas Fire Department said.

Just after 8:10 a.m., firefighters responded to the report of a fire at 4207 Garden Place, near Alta Drive and South Valley View Boulevard, the department said. Upon arrival, light smoke was coming from small one-story house’s front door. Occupants told arriving firefighters that everyone was out of the house, except for a small dog.

Fire Department spokesman Tim Szymanski said firefighters entered the home and found a mattress on fire. The fire was extinguished in less than three minutes. As some firefighters worked to put the fire out, other firefighters searched the house and found the dog, but it had already died because of smoke.

Two adults and three children are receiving help from the American Red Cross and the Las Vegas Fire Department Foundation, he said.

No injuries were reported. The fire’s cause is undetermined, Szymanski said. Damages are estimated at $3000.
