Gay pride event, parade scheduled this weekend

The 2008 Las Vegas Gay Pride Festival will celebrate its 25th year this weekend with a downtown nighttime parade and a daylong event at the Clark County Government Center Amphitheater.

The Pride Night Parade begins at 8 p.m. Friday at Charleston Boulevard and Fourth Street, then proceeds north along Fourth to Ogden Avenue. The parade's main stage is at Fourth and Bridger Avenue.

This marks the 10th year the gay pride festival has included a parade.

An after-party will be held at Freezone, 610 E. Naples Drive, near Tropicana Avenue and Swenson Street.

The Pride Festival will be from noon to 10 p.m. Saturday at the amphitheater at 500 S. Grand Center Parkway, near Alta Drive and Martin Luther King Boulevard.

More than 200 exhibitors are expected to participate in the festival, which includes entertainment and a food court.

Admission is $10 for adults, $6 for children ages 5 through 17, and free for children younger than 5.

The events are sponsored by the Southern Nevada Association of Pride Inc.
