Famed singer Engelbert Humperdinck got a star on the Las Vegas Walk of Stars Wednesday and was also presented with a key to the city of Las Vegas by its new mayor, Carolyn Goodman.
His was the 55th dedication ceremony for the Walk of Stars and it took place at the Paris Las Vegas resort on the Strip, where he will be performing today through Sunday.
Humperdinck got his Las Vegas start in 1968 at the Riviera, where he was introduced by Dean Martin, and that's "where my love affair with this wonderful city was cemented," he said. His accolades include four Grammy nominations, a 1988 Golden Globe for Entertainer of the Year, 63 gold and 24 platinum albums and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Before the ceremony at Paris Las Vegas, Humperdinck stopped by Las Vegas City Hall to collect the first key to the city bestowed by the new mayor.
"Anyone with the nickname like 'The King of Romance' is all right with me," Goodman said. "I want to thank you personally for making Las Vegas part of your career and bringing your millions of fans here to see you perform all of your hits."
Humperdinck thanked Goodman, saying "this key will unlock many, many memories."
Goodman indicated she'd made a good memory as well. "You look better than ever, too," she said as Humperdinck left the podium. "I'm not going home."
