Hearing date set in meat cleaver murder case
A Feb. 3 preliminary hearing was set Thursday for a 40-year-old chef charged with fatally stabbing his wife because she wanted to end their marriage.
Richard Magdayo Dahan told detectives that divorce was unacceptable because his parents were married until his father died, according to a Las Vegas police report.
At the preliminary hearing, Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Deborah Lippis will decide if prosecutors have enough evidence to take the case to trial.
Dahan, an unemployed chef, used a meat cleaver and two kitchen knives in the Jan. 10 attack, police said.
After the stabbing Dahan turned himself into police and confessed, telling them that if he could go back in time, he would kill Daisy Casalta Dahan, 28, again, the report said.
Dahan is being held at the Clark County Detention Center without bail.
It was the first homicide of the year under Las Vegas police jurisdiction.
