Italian tourist dies from injuries in US 95 crash in northwest Las Vegas
A man who was ejected from a vehicle after a serious crash Aug. 11 on U.S. Highway 95 died eight days later, according to Nevada Highway Patrol.
The highway patrol announced 30-year-old Firenze, Italy resident Marco Romoli, died Aug. 19 after being involved in a serious crash on Aug. 11.
Around 1:30 p.m. Aug. 11, a black Ford Explorer with four occupants was traveling south in the left lane of U.S 95 south of Durango Drive, the highway patrol said in a release.
For unknown reasons, the vehicle traveled into the left shoulder and struck a concrete traffic barrier under the Elkhorn Road overpass. As a result, Romola, who was in the left backseat, was ejected from the vehicle and was airlifted in critical condition to University Medical Center trauma unit. The driver and the two remaining passengers also were taken to UMC with nonlife-threatening injuries, the release said.
The southbound lanes were shut down briefly for a helicopter landing following the crash.
Romola died Aug. 19 at UMC.
All four occupants of the Explorer were tourists from Italy.
Investigators believe speed was a factor, the highway patrol said.
This marks the Nevada Highway Patrol-Southern Command’s 42nd fatal crash, resulting in 47 fatalities for 2016.
