Las Vegas man sentenced in tourist stabbing
A 24-year-old Las Vegas man on Thursday was sentenced to two to five years in prison for stabbing a California tourist a dozen times during a fight in an elevator at The Hotel at Mandalay Bay in February.
Carlos Heredia-Avalos in May pleaded guilty to battery with substantial bodily harm, a felony. He was sentenced by District Judge Michael Villani.
Heredia-Avalos and Trent Wilcox were charged with stabbing Eric Miller after an alcohol-infused fight erupted about 2 a.m. on Feb. 16. The confrontation started when the defendants made fun of Miller’s level of intoxication and his wife, Diane Androvich. After the stabbing, Miller was treated and released from University Medical Center.
In July, Wilcox pleaded guilty to attempted battery with substantial bodily harm, a gross misdemeanor, and was sentenced to a year in the Clark County jail with credit for time served. He has already been released, jail records show.
