Las Vegas moves second medical pot hearing to larger City Hall chambers

Due to the crowds that couldn’t get into the public meeting on medical marijuana Wednesday, Las Vegas officials have moved Tuesday’s 3 p.m. meeting to the City Hall chambers at 495 S. Main St.

The city will discuss zoning and licensing issues for medical marijuana. People interested in dispensing distilling, testing or growing medical marijuana are expected to attend.

The City Council voted 5-1 on March 19 to go ahead with allowing medical marijuana within city limits. There is a moratorium on accepting license applications until July 2 to allow staff time to draft licensing regulations about where the city wants to locate the facilities and what the requirements will be for obtaining a license.

More than 100 people crowded into the first location, while others stood outside the room, unable to participate. An earlier zoning and licensing meeting in City Hall was also scheduled for a room too small to handle the crowd.
