Las Vegas woman arrested in drowning of 3-year-old son

A Las Vegas woman was arrested in connection with the drowning of her 3-year-old son in the northwest Las Vegas Valley on Saturday night, Las Vegas police said.

Firefighters tried to revive the boy by performing CPR, but he died later at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, said Lt. Ken Romane.

The mother called 911 at 6:21 p.m. from the second floor of an apartment at 7812 Clarkdale Drive, near Vegas and Buffalo drives.

The boy was pronounced dead at 6:52 p.m.

“The mother originally reported that her 3-year-old drowned in the bathtub,” said Romane.

An investigation by homicide detectives later led to her arrest on suspicion of homicide, but Romane did not know the motive.

As of 9:30 p.m., the mother was being held outside the apartment in the back of a squad car, Romane said.
