Man dies after being hit by car near Sloan late Sunday night

A pedestrian was hit by a car and killed near Sloan late Sunday night, Las Vegas police said.

About 10:45 p.m., a 2003 Buick Rendezvous was heading east on Sloan Road, approaching Cameron Street, approaching a 2008 Mazda 3 that stopped on Sloan Road, Metro said in a news release Monday morning. The driver of the Mazda, identified as a 19-year-old male, got out of the car and started to cross Sloan Road when he was struck by the Buick.

The driver of the Buick, 50-year-old Las Vegas resident Silvia Perez, attempted to transport the man to a Las Vegas hospital, but stopped in a parking lot on Las Vegas Boulevard South to call medical services, according to the release.

Arriving medical personnel pronounced the man dead at the scene.

The release said that Perez then drove to an area near the crash and called police. The driver of the Mazda, who will be identified by the Clark County coroner’s office, was not crossing in a marked crosswalk, police said.

Metro said this is the 28th traffic-related death in their jurisdiction for 2016. The incident is still being investigated by Metro’s Collision Investigation Section, police said.
