Man found dead behind convenience store identified

The man found dead behind a local convenience store Saturday night has been identified by the Clark County coroner’s office.

The body of 51-year-old Jeffrey Clabaugh was located in a bush by police officers who were flagged down by citizens about 7:10 p.m. near the 4300 block of North Nellis Boulevard, near East Craig Road, police said.

The man suspected of killing Clabaugh was inside the Green Valley Grocery store when he saw Clabaugh possibly taking something from his white Ford Ranger pickup, police said in a news release. The man chased Clabaugh into an open desert area behind the store and beat him.

The man walked by to his truck but came back and struck Clabaugh with a rock, police said. Someone police described only as female got in the truck with the man and they left.

Police described the man who killed Clabaugh as Samoan or Hawaiian and between 20 and 30 years old. He was last seen wearing a green shirt, tan shorts and flip-flops.
