Rider dies after dirt bike accident in southwest Las Vegas

A dirt bike rider died in a crash Saturday afternoon after he rode his motorbike over a hill in the southwest valley and encountered a steep drop-off on the other side, police said.

The Metropolitan Police Department received a call at 12:30 p.m. about a dirt bike crash in a desert area a mile west of the intersection of Fort Apache and Warm Springs roads, Lt. Jeff Goodwin said.

“Evidence at the scene and a witness indicated a 2005 Honda dirt bike was cresting a hill with a steep drop off on the opposite side,” Metro said in a news release. The dirt bike and rider, identified only as a man in his 30s, fell from the steep slope and landed on a dirt path below, police said.

Other riders called in the crash, and Metro arrived on the scene within nine minutes, Goodwin said. The rider was flown by helicopter at about 1 p.m. to University Medical Center’s trauma unit where he was pronounced dead, Goodwin said.

Metro’s fatal detail is investigating the crash, and the Clark County Fire Department assisted, Goodwin said.

The rider’s identity will be released by the Clark County coroner’s office once family has been notified.

No more details were immediately available.
