Woman found dead in laundry chute was from California

A California woman whose body was found in a laundry chute early Sunday at The D Las Vegas was identified by the Clark County coroner's office Monday afternoon.

Kalli Medina-Brown, 26, was found unresponsive Sunday about 2:30 a.m. at the bottom of a laundry chute at The D, 301 Fremont St., said Metro Officer Michael Rodriguez. Las Vegas Fire Department crews initially responded, but she was dead when they arrived, he said.

Fire crews then called police at 2:40 a.m. because Medina-Brown's death seemed "suspicious," Rodriguez said. Metro homicide detectives initially investigated but found the nature of her death was not criminal; the coroner will rule whether it was an accident or suicide.

She was from Citrus Heights, California.

Staff at The D did not provide details such as who found Medina-Brown or whether the she was a guest at the hotel.

"We are saddened by the unfortunate incident that took place at the D Las Vegas," hotel spokeswoman Lorena Amaya wrote in a release. "We are cooperating with the authorities and cannot comment on the ongoing investigation."
