Man pleads guilty in baseball bat attack

A 25-year-old man who attacked Clark County jail guards with a baseball bat in September pleaded guilty to felony battery with use of a deadly weapon on Tuesday.

Michael Law, who is represented by the public defender’s office, could be sentenced to probation or up to 10 years in prison. A sentencing hearing was set for March 3 before District Judge Carolyn Ellsworth.

Law told detectives he was seeking revenge after police failed to thoroughly investigate when he was robbed earlier this year, according to a Las Vegas police report.

Law went to the Clark County Detention Center Sept. 11 and hit the first officer he encountered, Darren McCray, who was struck in the head, neck, jaw and finger, the report said.

Police have said they were unable to find a report or call that had anything to do with Law that would substantiate his claims.

Law has a history of run-ins with police. In 2007, police arrested him on robbery charges. Later that year, he was arrested on charges of obstructing a public officer.

In 2008, he was arrested on a warrant related to the obstruction charge. He was also booked on burglary and grand larceny charges, police said.

Law remained in custody on $60,000 bail, jail records show.
