Massachusetts Uber driver charged with sexually assaulting customer

ASHLAND, Mass. — An Uber driver in Massachusetts has been arrested after police allege he sexually assaulted a rider after she refused his offer of money in exchange for sex.

Police in Ashland say they charged 37-year-old Jose Arevalos-Avalos, of Holliston, with indecent assault and battery and attempting to pay for sexual conduct after the incident on Friday afternoon.

Authorities say the woman told police she was getting an Uber ride to work when the driver offered her $100 for sex. Police say Arevalos-Avalos sexually assaulted her with his hand after she refused. Uber employees helped police identify the driver through the woman’s Uber app.

Arevalos-Avalos is being detained pending a court arraignment on Monday. It is not clear if he has a lawyer who could respond to the allegations.
