Several seriously injured in Ind. tour bus crash

Roughly a half-dozen people were seriously injured after a double-decker tour bus heading from Atlanta to Chicago crashed outside of Indianapolis early on Tuesday morning, state police said.

Indiana State Police Sergeant Shawn O’Keefe said the bus, which was operated by Megabus, was near the city of Greenwood when it flipped on its side about 4:30 a.m. local time on Interstate 65.

Between six and eight people were seriously injured, while roughly 20 others suffered moderate to minor injuries, O’Keefe said, adding that about 60 people were on the bus at the time.

It was not immediately clear if any of the injuries were life-threatening.

O’Keefe said the driver had told company officials that the vehicle was struck by another car that was attempting to avoid a crash that happened 10 minutes earlier. Rain had fallen in the area overnight, police said.

Curtis Skinner reported from San Francisco.
