Nevada active voters list grows to more than 1.1 million

CARSON CITY — More than 1.1 million Nevadans are registered as active voters for the June 10 primary election following the close of registration on Tuesday. In all, 6,608 Nevadans registered to vote since the end of April.

Turnout for the primary is estimated to be only one-fifth of the total at best, however.

The registration numbers were released Friday, the day before the start of early voting in Clark County.

From May 1 to May 20, Democrats registered 1,770 voters while Republicans registered 1,968 voters. Active registered nonpartisans increased by 2,372 during the same time period.

Of the 1,153,522 active registrants statewide, 40.81 percent (470,793) are Democrats, 35.29 percent (407,084) are Republicans, 17.73 percent (204,488) are nonpartisan, 4.79 percent (55,245) are members of the Independent American Party, and the remaining 1.38 percent (15,912) are members of the Libertarian or other minor parties.

The total number of active registered voters at the close of registration for the 2014 primary election is up by 94,714 compared to the 2012 primary election close-of-registration figures.

The latest voter registration breakdown by county, party, age, and district can be found on the secretary of state’s website at www.nvsos.gov.

Early voting in Nevada begins Saturday and runs through June 6. Daily voter turnout and early voting locations in all counties will be available beginning Tuesday at the same link.
