North Las Vegas man gets 35 years for drug, firearms charges

A North Las Vegas man convicted of federal drug trafficking and firearm charges has been sentenced to 35 years in federal prison, Nevada U.S. Attorney Daniel Bogden announced Tuesday.

Lomando Mark Scott, 46, also was ordered to serve eight years of supervised release when he gets out of prison.

Scott was convicted in May of two counts of possession of crack cocaine with the intent to distribute, felon in possession of a firearm, and possession of a firearm during and in relation to a drug trafficking crime. The sentence was mandatory under federal law in part because of Scott’s criminal history, which included an almost identical conviction in 1994.

Scott was arrested on Aug. 11, 2010, by North Las Vegas police officers, who were serving an eviction notice at his residence. Officers found $10,803 in cash in his pants pockets and 250 grams of crack cocaine and a loaded stolen handgun in his vehicle, prosecutors said.

The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the North Las Vegas Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Amber M. Craig.
