Not much ‘luvin’ for halftime Madonna
February 7, 2012 - 2:01 am
Twitter reaction to Madonna's Super Bowl show seemed to intensely divide men and women -- inspiring disgust from guys and envy from females and fashionistas.
That's a generalization, but it seems fair, though I didn't read all 10,245 tweets per second during her gig.
Here are a few snarky male tweets, accusing Madge of being an annoying, lip-syncing troglodyte:
■ Garry Shandling: "Is this Madonna? Help me."
■ City Life editor Mike Prevatt: "Halftime fail. Microphone fail. New single fail. Oneupmanship by your co-performers fail. I could keep going."
■ "Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane: "The way they rhymed 'Madonna' with 'you wanna' was terrific. Just tremendous. And a bunch of times! Which was also great. Music is great."
■ @motalicious: " 'I'm sixty and I know it' -- Madonna"
■ Piers Morgan: "Madonna and I finally have something in common -- neither of us has sung at the #Superbowl"
■ @IMPOSE: "Madonna is looking more and more like Willem Dafoe everyday."
■ @djplastician: "Madonna might be old enough to be your nan but she still dances like your uncle at a wedding."
■ Dave Barry: "I'm really enjoying World Peace, and wondering why we didn't have Madonna do the Super Bowl halftime show sooner."
■ Denis Leary: "Sick about the Super Bowl. Not cause the Patriots lost. I think Madonna upset my equilibrium."
■ DJ Glenn Morrison: "Is it just me or did Madonna look like her uterus was going to fall out on stage?! She needs to retire"
■ @Rosenbergradio: "#THANKGODITSOVER no more talking about madonna and her t-rex arms"
■ And my own tweet @VegasAnonymous: "Is that Phyllis Diller with the gold pom poms at the Super Bowl?"
As for women and couture fans:
■ Paula Abdul: "I'm still thinking about Madonna's superbowl performance. So phenomenal!!"
■ Rita Wilson: "Woke up and still thinking how amazing Madonna was ... And so inspiring. She is not letting age define what she does."
■ Glamour Magazine UK: "Madonna's Super Bowl performance was SO awesome, we're watching it again!"
■ Vegas couture critic Michael Shulman: "Never have so many gays been on the field at a major sporting event. ... Thanks #Madonna, #NickiMinaj, #LMFAO, #CeeLo, and #MIA for bringing your A-Game!"
There are many other positive tweets, but let's be honest, they're not as fun as the mean ones.

Paris Hilton joined DJ Tiesto onstage at Wynn-Encore's XS nightclub Saturday night and told revelers it was the best expletive club in the world. Which was slightly awkward, because on Friday night, she took her parents to Wynn-Encore's other club, Surrender, to meet her hookup, DJ Afrojack. ...
Late but newsy: On Friday night, Newt Gingrich ate with Venetian-Palazzo creator Sheldon Adelson (a campaign bankroller) at Postrio Bar & Grill. No word on what they ate, or who picked up the tab, but I'm guessing it was gratis. Gingrich did a lot of elbow-rubbing while in town. He and his wife hung with MC Hammer at Lavo restaurant Thursday, as Norm Clarke reported over the weekend. ...
Madonna's ex Alex Rodriguez took a lady friend to Spago at the Forum Shops at Caesars on Saturday for salad and chicken. ... "Friday Night Lights' " Aimee Teegarden chowed at Cabo Wabo Cantina on Sunday, then partied at Gallery nightclub, drinking water and Belvedere with orange juice, while sucking on a Sugar Factory Couture Pop. ... Joe Jonas ate at Lavo on Sunday night with "90210's" Jessica Lowndes and friends, then went to club Lavo, where football players were partying -- Jacksonville Jaguars' Marcedes Lewis and Carolina Panthers' Jon Beason and Charles Godfrey.
